3D printed castable patterns

A hybrid pathway of digitally fabricating a removable partial denture framework where a castable pattern is designed and 3D printed.

1. The beginning stages of the digital design where I added virtual resin gaps, mesh retention, and major connector.

2. Finalising the design. Stippling and virtual sprues were added afterwards.

3. The 3D printed pattern printed using castable resin. Supports were carefully removed as some areas (such as the clasps) were fragile.

The final result after devesting, finishing, and polishing.

The fit of the final removable partial denture framework could be improved but dimensional changes due to the 3D printing technique may have had an influence. In the future I would like to make the clasps finer and choose the placement of the sprues more strategically. Nevertheless, I was satisfied with the outcome of my first maxillary cast partial denture framework.
